Dr Michaela Dommisse is the Head of Marine Research and Innovation at the Minderoo Foundation. With over three decades spanning research, policy and leading multimillion-dollar industry projects, Michaela brings her blended expertise to lever Minderoo partnership in the Blue Nature Alliance.
Her portfolio includes oversight of strategic research at the Exmouth Research Laboratory such as genetic screening of resilient marine species and the use of eDNA and other emerging technologies to rapidly identify marine hotspots for conservation. Michaela team plays a strong role in ocean conservation advocacy and conservation through release of high-profile movies such as “Blueback” and “Deep Sea Rising” showcased at the 2023 Sundance film festival.
She is a strong believer emerging trends in impact investment and has initiated an ocean finance program at Minderoo to lever 2.5 billion dollars into the blue economy in the next 5 years including a key focus in developing self-sustaining marine parks. Michaela has a PhD in marine science from James Cook University and is a graduate of the Institute of Company Directors. She maintains her close ties with the research as an adjunct senior researcher at The University of Western Australia.
