About Panama
¡Bienvenidos and welcome to Panama!
Panama is nested in the middle of North and South America at the crossroads of the American continent. The country boasts extensive coastlines to the north and south, and an interoceanic canal that connects world commerce and transportation. As such, Panama truly is the “bridge of the world and heart of the Americas”. Panama’s tropical climate, lush tropical forests, and highly productive marine ecosystems house some of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world.

In the past decades, Panama has emerged as a leader in the fight against climate change, being one of just three countries in the world that are designated as Carbon Negative. As a nation, Panama is committed to help regenerate our oceans.
CARBON NEGATIVE

Since 2021, Panama has been one of the only three countries around the world to be “carbon negative,” alongside Suriname and Bhutan. Through government efforts and support from Panama’s enterprises and civil societies, Panama successfully absorbs more carbon dioxide than it produces.
By 2021, Panama had already achieved the 30X30 goal, a commitment to protect 30% of its ocean, by expanding the Marine Protected Areas surrounding the Isthmus of Panama. In this way, Panama is protecting its marine resources, biodiversity, and ecosystems, and honoring its promise to save our ocean.
